Pupdate: Fable & Inktober

Fable will be 16 weeks old on Monday. This is a milestone in a puppy in trainings life. She gets the last round of her regular vaccinations which lifts some restrictions on where she can go, place like parks and other high traffic dog areas like the pet store. Recently they added an extra parvo vaccination as an extra precaution against the virus. For puppy raisers 16 weeks is like the threshold of the puppy from preschool to grade school.

Fable had an unexpected trip to the vet this last Monday. About a week before I wondered if she might have an ear infection. Bill cleaned her ears and they were pretty dirty. Then when he checked the next night one of them was really dirty again. He cleaned it every day and sometime twice a day but it wasn’t improving. So I took her in to get it checked out. Turned out she has a lot of yeast in her ear so the vet put some thick medicine in and he will check it to make sure it is all better on Monday.

Here are my drawings for Inktober for the past week. Just one week to go. I’m super happy that I’ve been able to do a drawing everyday so far. I plan to keep it for one more week.

16 Weeks!

Today was a big milestone in a young puppies life. At 16 weeks they get the last of their puppy vaccinations. Now she is fully immunized against all those yucky puppy diseases. The restrictions are now lifted on going to parks and other high traffic dog areas and having to carry her into the vet. I’m looking forward to taking her down to the Jordan River Trail in the next week or so. I know she is going to love it.

Yakira is 12 Weeks old

I took Yakira to the vet today to get her next round of vaccinations. She weighed 22.4 pounds. Just three weeks ago she was 15.6. That is some good growing girl. She has learned so much since we got her almost four weeks ago. She has lots more to learn but she is doing good. We also stopped by JoAnn to get some glue sticks for my candy project. She was so excited to see people and especially kids. Thank goodness for Gentle Leaders so I can redirect her without having to give her a big correction.

Beginnings & Endings

Today Casey got her last puppy shots. She weighs 26 lbs. This kind of marks the end of being a baby puppy and moving into being a young puppy with lots more opportunities. The end of the beginning of raising Casey. Today we also found out that Banta will be returning to GDB on November 8th for breeder evaluations. We knew it was coming but now we have a confirmed date. There is so much mixed emotion about her leaving–excitement to see what her path in life will be and sadness in that she will no longer be part of our everyday lives. This is the beginning of the end in raising Banta.

Casey’s Two New Adventures

Today Casey went to the vet to get her 12 week old vaccinations. She did good though she cried when the needle went in. We were pretty sure that she had an ear infection and that was confirmed. Casey now has medicine to clear it up. She weighed in at 19.8 lbs.
Banta spent the day at work with Bill. He has been spending most of his time in the lab lately and she tends to get cold. Maybe we need to get another dog bed just for work. So she can snuggle into it instead of laying on the hard lab floor. Bill has a sweater that he lays down for her and that helps.
Tonight was our annual swimming party for puppy class. I thought that Banta would do pretty well and wasn’t at all sure that Casey would even get in the water. Boy was I wrong. I think Casey was the first puppy in the water. I was so proud of her. There was no sign of a the shy side of Casey. She did great and enjoyed it very much. Banta never quite got the hang of it and spent most of her time socializing. We had lots of dogs, from a couple of pet dogs & career change dogs to a working guide dog and 8 puppies in training. Everyone has so much fun. Both the girls are now very tired and sleeping soundly now.
